Tawang: India’s highest bi-lane tunnel, the Sela Tunnel, celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday. Situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet, the tunnel was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
To commemorate the milestone, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju visited the tunnel and lauded the team behind the project for their remarkable achievement.
Over the past year, the Sela Tunnel has revolutionised connectivity in the region, ensuring year-round, unhindered movement for tourists, locals, and Indian Army convoys.
The tunnel has significantly reduced travel time and transportation costs to forward areas, including Tawang.
Its impact on the region’s socio-economic growth has been profound, bolstering tourism and triggering rapid infrastructure development, including a surge in hotel construction in Tawang.
