Hagrama Mohilary opposes Special Revision in BTR, calls it “unnecessary”

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary on Monday opposed the proposed Special Revision (SR) in the Sixth Schedule area.

He described the move as “unnecessary and contrary” to the spirit of the Bodo Peace Accord signed on February 10, 2003.

The BTC Chief stated that the peace accord, which has been legislatively enacted, granted legal recognition to all residents living in the region at the time of its signing.

“Everyone residing here when the accord was signed is a legal resident of the BTR. In line with this decision and the accord, we see no justification for a Special Revision in the region,” he stated.

The BTC Chief made the remarks while laying the foundation stones of three major development projects worth Rs 130 crore in Assam’s Chirang district, including Traditional Food Park at Ballamguri in Bijni, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore; the Udangshri Alari Prem Singh Brahma Auditorium Hall at Kajalgaon, the district headquarters, with an outlay of Rs 30 crore; and a Bodoland Eco Resort at Dadgiri near the Bhutan border, estimated to cost Rs 50 crore.

The aim of the Traditional food park which will operate under Assam Government PWD is the preservation and commercial expansion of traditional food items. The food park is part of the development projects for the year 2025-26. Mohilary said that the project would create job opportunities for the local youths.

He added that the food park would be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. “We are facing a shortage of manpower. Therefore, the project will be leased out to private companies under a PPP model,” Mohilary said.

The BTC Chief also predicted a good show by the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the upcoming Assam Assembly Election 2026.
