Guwahati: An accused robber was reportedly injured in police firing in Guwahati on Monday morning while attempting to escape custody. The robber named Madhav Das was shot in his leg and has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
As per reports, Madhav Das was behind a recent robbery that took place in Guwahati’s Beltola. Das was allegedly involved in an armed burglary at two apartments in Nirupama Enclave on January 29, when the homeowners were away.
Police said the robbers entered the residential premises with their faces covered in black cloth and were armed with sticks and other weapons.

Identified as the mastermind, he was part of a three-man gang responsible for the robberies.
He was shot while attempting to flee from custody during an early morning encounter at Ten Mile along G.S. Road in Amerigog. A police personnel was also injured in the ensuing commotion.
According to police, while the robbers failed to loot one flat, they made away with a substantial amount of cash and other valuables from the second flat. Police recovered Rs 15.56 lakh in cash, along with iron rods and screwdrivers allegedly used in the crime.
Police officer Kapil Pathak while speaking on the issue said, “These accused are involved in multiple robbery cases across Guwahati, particularly targeting apartment complexes.”
