Agartala: In a bid to equip Tripura’s youth with industry-ready skills and curb outmigration, the state government has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with IIT Delhi and Tata Indian Institute of Skills (IIS), an official said on Sunday.
Under these partnerships, a total of 1,000 candidates will be trained in cutting-edge and high-demand job roles, boosting employability and strengthening the state’s skilled workforce.
Director of Skill Development Pradeep K said that the first MoU with IIT Delhi aims to train 500 candidates in five futuristic technologies—Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and 5G.
The programmes will be implemented in collaboration with NIELIT Agartala, Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) and other state-run institutions.
Funding support will come jointly from PMKVY 4.0 and the state’s MMDUP (Mukhya Mantri Dakyatha Unnyanan Prakalpa) scheme.
Ashutosh Dutt Sharma, CEO of IHFC—the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Delhi—was present during the signing and expressed interest in setting up a regional centre in Tripura to support startups working in next-generation technology domains. The proposed centre, he said, would help nurture local innovators and generate IT-linked employment within the state.
The second MoU, with Tata IIS, will train another 500 candidates in high-demand industrial and manufacturing sectors including industrial automation safety engineering, robotic system integration, EV maintenance, CNC programming and 3D printing operations.
Training will be conducted in partnership with the state’s Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), the director said, adding that all programmes will be strictly placement-linked.
Mayank Palan, CFO of Tata IIS, said successful trainees will be connected to Tata’s vehicle manufacturing units and its extensive network of industrial clients across mainland India.

Officials said the initiative is expected to significantly boost employability and open new livelihood avenues for Tripura’s youth in advanced manufacturing, automotive technologies, and IT-linked sectors.
Pradeep K added that the department aims to strengthen digital and startup-oriented skill training to ensure more young people secure jobs within the state rather than migrating elsewhere.
