Guwahati: Bolstered with superlative performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Assam on Tuesday started its Ranji Trophy against Saurashtra confidently with good performances by its batsmen.
Winning toss, Saurashtra elected to field at the Assam Cricket Stadium at Barsapara in Guwahati.
At the end of first day’s game, Assam scored 249 for 7 in 85 overs. Chetan Sakariya and Prerak Mankad took some of the crucial Assam wickets.
Chetan Sakariya got two wickets for 26 runs, including that of Assam captain and opener Kunal Saikia. Prerak Mankad also got two wickets for 52 runs. He got the wicket of opener Rahul Hazarika, the top run getter for Assam with 90.
Riyan Parag scored 76, Sibsankar Roy scored 42, Sarupam Purkayastha 12 not out and Mukhtar Hussain 10 not out.
