UPSC 2024 results: Women claim top two ranks in civil services exam

A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various civil services based on their performance, aligning with the available vacancies and exam regulations

UPSC 2024 results: Women claim top two ranks in civil services exam

New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the results of the Civil Services Examination 2024, with women clinching the top two positions.

A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various civil services based on their performance, aligning with the available vacancies and exam regulations.

Among the successful candidates, 335 belong to the General category, 109 to EWS, 318 to OBC, 160 to SC, and 87 to ST, according to UPSC.

The journey began with the Preliminary Examination held on June 16, 2024, which saw 5,83,213 candidates appear out of 9,92,599 applicants.

Of these, 14,627 advanced to the Main Examination conducted in September, followed by 2,845 qualifying for the Personality Test.

Topping the merit list is Shakti Dubey, who achieved the first rank with Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject.

Dubey, a B.Sc. graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad, emerged as a trailblazer in the examination.

Second place was secured by Harshita Goyal, a B.Com graduate from MS University of Baroda, who also selected Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject.

Dongre Archit Parag ranked third with Philosophy as his optional subject. Parag holds a B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from VIT, Vellore.

The top five ranks include three women and two men, reflecting a strong representation of women among high achievers.

Meanwhile, the top 25 positions are split between 11 women and 14 men, with diverse academic backgrounds spanning Engineering, Humanities, Science, Commerce, Medicine, and Architecture.

Candidates in the top bracket hail from institutions such as IITs, NITs, VIT, JNU, the University of Delhi, and the University of Allahabad.

Their chosen optional subjects ranged from Anthropology, Geography, and Mathematics to Public Administration, Sociology, and Tamil Literature.

The list also includes 45 candidates with Benchmark Disabilities, comprising 12 Orthopedically Handicapped, 8 Visually Impaired, 16 Hearing Impaired, and 9 with Multiple Disabilities.

To assist candidates with inquiries, UPSC has established facilitation counters near its examination hall.

The marks of all candidates will be uploaded on the Commission’s official website within 15 days.
