KOHIMA: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), an ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government to uphold the interests of minorities and safeguard religious rights.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party, while extending congratulations to the Prime Minister for his record third-time in the office, highlighted its commitment to voice concerns over the protection of minority and religious rights.
It also committed to support the Centre in upholding the Constitution.
The appeal to safeguard minority interests and religious rights follows a joint resolution passed by the NDPP and its parliamentary party on June 12, outlining their stance on crucial issues and reiterating their dedication to the people of Nagaland.
Highlighting their ongoing efforts towards resolving the Indo-Naga political issue, the NDPP reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating constructive Indo-Naga political negotiations.
The party stressed the importance of achieving a political settlement that is “inclusive and acceptable to all stakeholders”, a cornerstone of its manifesto.
Earlier in May, the Nagaland government established a Political Affairs Committee (PAC), comprising ministers and leaders from all political parties in the state Assembly.
The committee’s objective is to seek an inclusive solution to the complex Naga Political issue.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio chaired the high-level political meeting that constituted the PAC.
The NDPP assured the people of their continued commitment to welfare initiatives outlined in their manifesto and constitution.
The party encouraged public participation and also highlighted the importance of successful urban local body (ULB) elections in the state.
