AIZAWL: Aam Aadmi Party (APP), the newest entrant in Mizoram’s political arena, has began its campaign in the poll-bound state with much enthusiasm.
To drum up support for the party’s debut in the Assembly polls of the state on November 7, party leader Harjot Singh Bains landed in the state on Friday.
The Punjab Education Minister was accorded a warm welcome by Rajesh Sharma, the party’s in-charge of Northeast and the party’s Assam president, Dr Bhaben Chaudhary, among others.
As a part of the party’s campaign trail, Bains is scheduled to take part in an event titled “Youth @Education Dialogue” organised by the party on Friday evening.
Upon landing in the Lengpui Airport, 32 km from the capital Aizawl, Bains, accompanied by other dignitaries of the party, visited the Government High School in Lengpui.

Apart from interacting with the students and teachers of the institution, Bains also took stock of the facilities availed by the government in the school.
Making its debut in the state polls slated for November 7, the AAP has fielded four candidates for the 40-seat Mizoram Assembly.
According to a statement released by the party on October 19, the party has nominated Andrew Lalaremkima, Vanlalmawia Vanchhawng, Joseph Biakthinaghlima, and Lalngiahawma Pachuau to represent them in the constituencies of Aizawl North III, Aizawl West I, Aizawl West III, and Aizawl South I, respectively.

The political scene in Mizoram witnessed a surprise on October 16 when, during a press conference at the AAP headquarters in Delhi, Sharma, announced the party’s decision to venture into the “active politics” of the Northeast, starting with Mizoram.
Sharma laid bare the myriad challenges confronting the region, which includes inflation, unemployment, educational barriers, and healthcare shortfalls.
He expressed the party’s commitment to nurture an expansive organisational outreach across the region.
