Umroi Military Station hosts joint army-air force drill showcasing next-gen warfare

Shillong: Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, General Officer Commanding of the Gajraj Corps, visited the Red Horns Division at Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya to observe Exercise Yudh Kaushal, a cutting-edge joint military drill that highlighted the Indian Army’s technological advancements in modern warfare.

The exercise, conducted in collaboration with the Indian Air Force, simulated the capture of an enemy objective in a multi-domain environment.

It showcased the operational integration of advanced technologies, including helicopters, drones for surveillance and armed roles, next-generation equipment, force multipliers, and supporting arms.

The Indian Air Force played a crucial role in the operation, demonstrating its capacity for rapid troop deployment and seamless coordination with ground forces.

The drill also saw active participation from academia, with experts from IIT Guwahati, and contributions from the civil defence industry, highlighting a collaborative approach to defence innovation.

Lt Gen Singh interacted with soldiers and officers who participated in the exercise, commending their exemplary execution of coordinated operations.

He emphasised the importance of continually enhancing technical expertise and striving for operational excellence to meet the demands of modern warfare.

Exercise Yudh Kaushal featured a synchronised assault on enemy positions using first-person-view drones, automated mobility vehicles, and advanced secure communication devices.

Paratroopers executed combat free-fall missions, while UAVs provided round-the-clock intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, ensuring precision and lethality in operations.

The exercise underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to modernising its defence capabilities through the integration of emerging technologies, precision firepower, secure communication systems, and refined tactics.
