SHILLONG: In the wee hours of December 2, a fierce fire broke out at Bajoria Mill in Shillong’s Garikhana, engulfing the godown premises, triggering panic and concern among local residents.
The blaze, suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit, was first noticed around 12:30 am and was raging for hours despite the relentless efforts of firefighting teams.
As of the latest update, there have been no reported casualties, and investigation is on to ascertain the actual cause of the incident.
The godown became a battleground for firefighters as they grappled to control the flames that threatened to spread to the neighbouring areas, including Magik Cook’s Campus.
Swift action was taken by multiple emergency response units, including Pulit Fire & Emergency Services, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army and District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO).
These teams arrived promptly on the scene to combat the blaze and prevent its escalation.

The victim was identified as an employee at a rented godown in the area.
