Shillong: The Meghalaya government has started the recruitment process for faculty at Tura Medical College, which is expected to become functional from the next academic session.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said this while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday.
“The recruitment for faculty has begun and admissions will commence in the next academic session,” he said.
The medical college was initially proposed to be run under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
However, the state government later decided to operate it directly following public concerns and demands for a government-run institution.

Earlier, the minister had stated that the shift away from the PPP model was prompted by apprehensions raised by the public.
The proposal had originally been considered due to a shortage of medical professionals, but it faced opposition from political parties and pressure groups who feared higher treatment costs and increased fees for local students.
