Imphal: In a significant counter-insurgency drive, security forces on Friday carried out coordinated operations at suspected militant hideouts in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, officials said.
According to an official, coordinated counter-insurgency operations were conducted in the Henglep area of the district by personnel from the Para Special Forces and the Assam Rifles. The operations targeted locations believed to be used as hideouts by militant groups active in the region.
“The area has been known for the presence of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), which is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations agreement. However, details regarding the specific group being targeted in the current operation are still awaited,” another official said.
The operation focused on the forested and remote parts of the hill district and was part of ongoing efforts to curb militant activity and restore stability in the violence-affected state.
“To carry out the mission effectively in difficult jungle terrain, troops were deployed with the assistance of helicopters,” the official added.
Manipur has witnessed prolonged ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and hill-based Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023. The clashes have claimed at least 260 lives and displaced thousands of people from their homes.

The state is currently under the President’s rule, which was imposed on February 13, 2025, following the resignation of former Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 9 last year.
