Imphal: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel seized a large quantity of suspected cannabis (ganja) at Imphal Airport in Manipur during a routine screening operation early this week, officials said on Saturday.
The incident took place on September 29.
The men, aged 20 and 21 years, had concealed the contraband in the bags and were caught by CISF personnel during baggage screening.
According to officials, the contraband was intercepted when CISF staff conducted random X-BIS screening of the baggage of the two passengers who were scheduled to travel from Imphal to Delhi on an Air India Express flight.
Suspicious objects detected during the baggage scan prompted a thorough inspection, which led to the recovery of the suspected cannabis.
About 21 kg of cannabis worth around Rs 20 lakh was seized from them.
The duo was deboarded and handed over to the local police for further investigation.
CISF authorities stated that the operation once again highlighted the vigilance and efficiency of its personnel in ensuring airport safety and preventing smuggling attempts. They added that such detections reflect the force’s commitment to strengthening the national campaign against drugs and contraband.
