A 20-year-old woman from Manipur was killed after being run over by a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus in the Marathahalli police station limits, triggering widespread public outrage after disturbing video footage of the incident surfaced on social media.
The incident occurred on Friday but came to light on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Hanna Inaka, was travelling on a scooter with a friend when the BMTC bus allegedly hit the two-wheeler from behind.
The impact threw her onto the road, where she came under the front wheel of the bus and was subsequently run over by the rear wheels as well, police said.
She sustained critical injuries and succumbed shortly after. The viral video of the incident has sparked strong public reaction, with citizens accusing the bus driver of rash and negligent driving.
Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and fix responsibility.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over road safety and BMTC operations in the city.
Similar fatal accidents involving BMTC buses have been reported in recent months.
On January 10, a 28-year-old man, Kanakaraj from Tamil Nadu, was killed near Electronics City after falling from a two-wheeler and being run over by a BMTC bus.
In November last year, two people died in separate accidents involving BMTC buses in the Vijaya Nagar and Madiwala police station areas.
In another incident on October 26, a 58-year-old woman, Mala, was struck and killed by a BMTC electric bus in the Vijayanagar area while crossing the road near Hampi Nagar bus stop.
The latest tragedy has intensified public demands for stricter accountability, better monitoring of public transport drivers and stronger enforcement of road safety measures across Bengaluru.
