Shillong: Dominic Megam Sangma’s critically acclaimed Garo-language film “Rapture” is set to captivate Shillong audiences this November.
The film, which has garnered international acclaim, will offer local cinephiles a unique opportunity to experience Sangma’s celebrated work.
The film will be screened at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong from November 7-11. The screenings are being organized by the Art and Culture Department of the Meghalaya government in collaboration with Fraternity Art Cine Entertainment Shillong (FACES). Three daily shows are scheduled at 12:15 PM, 2:40 PM, and 5:15 PM.
“Rapture” has garnered significant recognition, including the Best Director Critics’ Choice award at the 2024 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The film has also been honoured at the Malaysia International Film Festival and the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) festival and received nominations at various prestigious international events.
Rapture” is set amidst the Garo community in Meghalaya, Northeast India. It follows the story of a 10-year-old boy who suffers from night blindness and lives in a village gripped by fear. Local people have been disappearing, fueling rumors of kidnappers trafficking in human organs.
The film’s compelling narrative and visually striking elements have captivated audiences worldwide, providing a window into the vibrant cultural heritage of Northeast India.
The film made its homecoming debut in Meghalaya on August 15, premiering in Tura in Garo Hills.
Its recent screening at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata, which featured a Q&A session with Sangma, further underscored the increasing interest in cinema from the Northeastern states.
