Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved its highest-ever rail-based vehicle dispatch, transporting more than 5.85 lakh vehicles by train in 2025, marking an 18 per cent increase over the previous year and reinforcing its push towards greener logistics.
The automaker said the growing reliance on rail has sharply expanded its share of railway transport in outbound logistics — from just 5.1 per cent in 2016 to 26 per cent in 2025 — contributing to lower carbon emissions, reduced dependence on fuel imports and easing pressure on road networks across the country.
Highlighting key milestones, Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said 2025 was a landmark year for the company’s green logistics strategy.
He pointed to the commissioning of India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding at the Manesar facility and the historic dispatch of vehicles to the Kashmir Valley via rail over the world’s highest railway arch bridge across the Chenab River — a first for any automobile manufacturer in the country.
Maruti Suzuki has set an ambitious target to raise rail-based dispatches to 35 per cent of total outbound logistics by FY2030–31, aligning its operations with India’s long-term net-zero goal for 2070.

Since FY 2014–15, the company has transported over 28 lakh vehicles by rail from 22 dispatch hubs, serving more than 600 cities nationwide through a hub-and-spoke logistics model.
It currently operates a fleet of over 45 flexi-deck rakes, each capable of carrying around 260 vehicles per trip.
In 2025 alone, more than half of the company’s rail dispatches originated from its in-plant railway sidings at Gujarat and Manesar, which together accounted for 53 per cent of total rail movements.
The company said its logistics strategy is part of a broader “Circular Mobility” sustainability framework, which focuses on reducing carbon footprint across the entire vehicle lifecycle — from design and manufacturing to transportation and end-of-life vehicle management — positioning Maruti Suzuki as a leading proponent of rail transport as a clean and efficient mobility solution.
