Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the new building of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate on December 29.
He added that Shah will also launch an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS), aimed at strengthening the city’s security infrastructure.
Shah is scheduled to launch the projects on Monday during his visit to the state. According to Sarma, the ICCS will monitor more than 2,000 CCTV cameras across Guwahati, significantly enhancing security surveillance and emergency response mechanisms.
“A major boost to Guwahati’s safety. On December 29, Adarniya @AmitShah ji is set to inaugurate Guwahati’s new Police Commissionerate and an Integrated Command and Control Centre, which will monitor over 2,000 CCTVs to bolster security and emergency response systems,” the chief minister said in a post on X.
During his visit, Shah will also travel to Batadrava Than in Nagaon district—the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva—where he will inaugurate the redevelopment project of the spiritual site on Monday.
Earlier, Sarma had said the state government made concerted efforts to restore the sanctity and grandeur of Batadrava Than. “Batadrava Than, freed from encroachments, is now a shining example of what steely resolve can achieve in protecting our heritage,” the chief minister had said.
On the same day, Shah is also slated to inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex in Guwahati. The landmark facility, with a seating capacity of 5,000, is expected to significantly enhance Assam’s cultural landscape and provide a major boost to public events and artistic engagements in the region.
