Guwahati: Assam’s Tanuj Samaddar has been selected to participate in the IUCN World Conservation Congress, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from October 9.
Samaddar, who hails from Rangia in Kamrup district, has been chosen by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Held every four years, the World Conservation Congress brings together nature conservation experts, leaders, and decision-makers from across the globe, the IUCN release issued on Monday said.
This year’s congress, which will continue until October 15, is themed ‘Power of Transformative Change’.
The congress will constitute a “major milestone in the countdown towards the goals set for both the Convention on Biological Diversity and those agreed since COP21 in Paris regarding climate change,” the release said.
Samaddar is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies in a college under the Delhi University and is a recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. He also serves as a member of the Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP) at IUCN.
Tanuj is scheduled to take part in the thematic sessions of the commission and country-specific pavilions, the release stated.

He will also interact with policymakers and activists from around the world to highlight the increasing threat of encroachment on Assam’s wetlands, it added.
