Guwahati: Nine-year-old Binita Chetry from Assam has made history by securing the second runner-up position in the grand finale of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT), becoming one of the youngest and most celebrated international performers to represent India on the global stage.
Hailing from Talbalijan village near Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district, Binita’s rise from a remote hill village to the iconic BGT stage in London marks an inspiring journey of talent, perseverance, and community support.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the young dancer on her remarkable feat.
“Dancing her way to glory. Many congratulations to our very own #BinitaChetry on securing the 3rd spot at #BGTFinal,” he posted on X, adding, “Her performances have mesmerised audiences from the Brahmaputra to the Thames and made us all proud.”
Binita’s family believes she is the first Indian contestant to reach the finals of the prestigious UK-based talent show.
The 2025 edition of Britain’s Got Talent was won by British magician Harry Moulding, while LED dance troupe ‘The Blackouts’ secured second place.
In a video shared on BGT’s official social media channels, Binita expressed heartfelt gratitude to her supporters, especially the audience in the United Kingdom, for voting for her.
She also acknowledged the encouragement she received from across South Asia, including India, Nepal, and Bhutan, which she said gave her strength and motivation throughout the competition.
The young dancer also thanked Assam CM for his kind words and support, expressing her wish to meet him in person. “I hope this message reaches him, and I get the opportunity to meet him,” she said.
Support from local leaders played a key role in her journey.
Binita extended special thanks to Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), for providing Rs. 5 lakh in financial assistance for her preparations ahead of the BGT finale.
She also received support from local MLA and Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Numal Momin.
Binita’s father, Amar Chetry, who runs a small broiler farm and is involved in community welfare, recognised her talent early on.
