SILCHAR: In move to recognise the dedication and service of ex-servicemen, Assam University, Silchar, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam. This agreement, signed on Tuesday, sets the stage for the award of graduation degrees to eligible ex-servicemen.

The MoU was formally signed by Dr Pradosh Kiran Nath, Registrar of Assam University, and Brigadier Dinesh Chandra Mazumdar (Retd), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam.

This initiative is driven by the aim to empower ex-servicemen who have dedicated a substantial portion of their youth to unwavering commitment and duty to the nation, often missing out on opportunities for civil education.

The award of UGC (University Grants Commission) recognised graduation degrees will enable ex-servicemen to demonstrate their skills and capabilities in their post-military careers. The collaboration with Assam University, Silchar, stands as one of the most beneficial welfare measures for these Ex-Servicemen, aiding in their rehabilitation and transition to civilian life.

Moreover, this initiative will make ex-servicemen eligible for various job opportunities, as a 2% reservation has been sanctioned by the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the RSB (Rajya Sainik Board) meeting.

The partnership between Assam University and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, marks a significant step forward in recognising and honouring the invaluable contributions of ex-servicemen and their potential in various sectors of civilian life. It reflects a shared commitment to supporting their successful reintegration into society and their pursuit of higher education and career opportunities.

The signing event took place in the presence of distinguished guests, including Chancellor Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC, and Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice Chancellor of Assam University.

The armed forces groom highly disciplined and competitive professionals by imparting training in various disciplines, helping these individuals develop confidence, enhance their personalities, and cultivate leadership qualities. They are also well-versed in modern technology and efficient in administrative tasks.
