Guwahati: Assam will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Switzerland for the first time, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma set to present the state’s investment potential before global business and political leaders, an official communiqué said on Sunday.
The chief minister will attend the five-day summit at Davos from January 19 to 23, during which several key agreements are expected to be signed, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
The visit is aimed at showcasing Assam’s emerging economic profile and future-ready development vision to an international audience.
In a post on X, the CMO said Assam’s participation at WEF marks a significant milestone, reflecting the state’s growing confidence and focus on attracting global investments.

It added that discussions and memoranda of understanding with international stakeholders are likely during the visit.
The WEF Annual Meeting will bring together world leaders, policymakers and industry captains to deliberate on global challenges under the theme of fostering dialogue in an increasingly fragmented world.
India will have a strong presence at the summit, with Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Pralhad Joshi and K. Rammohan Naidu, along with six chief ministers and more than 100 top Indian CEOs, expected to participate.
