Guwahati: The Assam Harmony Festival 2026 will be organised from February 11 to 15 at the Hajongbori Brahmaputra river bank in Chandrapur, Guwahati, to commemorate the birth centenary of legendary cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika and to pay artistic tribute to popular singer Zubeen Garg.
The five-day festival is being organised by the Folk Culture Research and Development Samity, in collaboration with the Sunrise Foundation.
The event will be inaugurated by Koji Sato, Director General of the Japan Foundation, and Mohamed Khater, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Along with cultural performances by local artistes, the festival will host exhibitions featuring leading entrepreneurs from the handicraft, horticulture, industry and bamboo sectors, supported by the Department of Culture, Government of Assam; the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India; the Directorate of Horticulture; Assam State Bamboo Mission; and the Industry Department of Assam.
The festival will also feature traditional sports, traditional food stalls, screenings of popular Assamese films, children’s games, joy rides and other community activities, making it a comprehensive cultural and lifestyle event.
International artistes scheduled to perform include Kaori Naka (Japan), Pasuk Waeosri (Thailand) and Nuwan Wijekoon Bandara Ekanayaka Mudiyanselage (Sri Lanka).
The organisers are also expecting performances by world-renowned sand artist Padma Shri Sudarsan Patnaik and eminent Odissi Guru Gajendra Panda, supported by the Government of Odisha.
Popular local artistes Ritrisha Sarmah, who has collaborated with Zubeen Garg on several occasions, and Dikshu Sarma are expected to perform on the inaugural and concluding nights of the festival, respectively.
The festival is being organised in association with P3: Planning, Production, Promotion, and is supported by Mystique Mayong Resort and Radio Gup-Shup 94.3 FM.
