Barpeta: The Office of the Joint Director of Health Services in Barpeta marked World TB Day 2025 with a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness and strengthening the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
The event was led by Dr. Kameswar Lahkar, Joint Director of Health Services, Barpeta, and witnessed active participation from healthcare professionals and the local community.
The day began with a rally in the town to spread awareness about TB and encourage community engagement in its prevention and treatment.
Following the rally, an awareness meeting was held at the Joint DHS office, focusing on the theme for this year’s observance, “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.”
During the meeting, Dr. Bhaskacharya Bez provided an update on TB cases in the district and emphasised the importance of collective efforts to eliminate TB through dedicated commitment, adequate investment, and effective delivery of healthcare services.
The program also included the felicitation of healthcare workers who have made significant contributions to the district’s TB programme.

As part of the initiative, nutritional support under the Nikshay Poshan scheme was distributed to TB patients to aid their treatment and recovery.
The event was attended by District TB Officer Dr. Gunin Das, District Drug Inspector Dr. Ajit Sarma, SDM&HO (HQ), and officials from the District and Block Program Management Units (DPMU and BPMU).
Representatives from the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP), ASHA workers, and ASHA Supervisors also participated in the day’s activities.
