ITANAGAR: In the run-up to the twin polls in Arunachal Pradesh, the state BJP exudes confidence in the ruling party’s ability to decimate the Congress from the state’s political landscape

The Saffron party state president, Biyuram Wahge, while speaking in an interview with a national news agency on Monday, outlined the BJP’s strategy and aspirations for the electoral battle set to unfold on April 19.

Wahge, who is vying for his third term from the Pakke-Kessang assembly constituency, asserted that the people’s disillusionment with the Congress, stemming from allegations of widespread corruption and financial mismanagement during the party’s previous tenures.

“People have realized that only a ‘double-engine BJP government’ can ensure development. We will aim for a ‘Congress-mukt Arunachal’,” Wahge stressed.

As the electoral fray intensifies, the BJP has fielded Union minister Kiren Rijiju and sitting MP Tapir Gao from the Arunachal West and East Lok Sabha constituencies, respectively.

In contrast, the opposition Congress has nominated former chief minister Nabam Tuki and Bosiram Siram for the West and East constituencies, respectively.

Highlighting the BJP’s comprehensive electoral strategy, Wahge noted that the party has put forward candidates for all 60 assembly constituencies, while the Congress has fielded 34 nominees.

Notably, former Congress minister Takam Pario defected to the Saffron party a day after receiving a Congress ticket.

Underlining the BJP’s commitment to combating electoral malpractices, Wahge pledged to address the pervasive “money culture” prevalent in Northeastern polls.

Stressing on its detrimental effects on democracy, he echoed Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s stance against corruption and the need for ethical conduct during elections.

With Arunachal Pradesh set for simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls on April 19, other political players, including the National Peoples’ Party (NPP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA), have also revealed their electoral strategies.

The NPP, aligned with the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), has pledged support to the BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha elections, further shaping the complex political landscape of the state.

Meanwhile, the NPP has unveiled a list of 29 candidates, while the NCP has disclosed 17 nominees thus far.

Additionally, the PPA has nominated two candidates for the assembly polls.
