GUWAHATI: The 25th session of the FAO Intergovernmental Group on Tea will be held from January 31 to February 2 in Guwahati.

The FAO IGG on Tea is being organized by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of Assam, Tea Board of India, in association with the Tea Research Association (TRA) Tocklai.

The three-day event will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati.

The FAO Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Tea represents a forum for intergovernmental consultation and exchange on trends in production, consumption, trade and prices of tea.

The IGG on Tea gets regular appraisal of the global market situation and short term outlook.

The Group, under FAO auspices, considers changes in national policies and examines their international effects as they pertain to current and prospective markets.

The FAO Intergovernmental group on Tea under Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is the sole international body for tea where all tea producing and consuming countries participate once in two years.

The last physical session was held in Hangzhou China in 2018 and it was India’s turn to host it in 2020. Due to pandemic the holding of the session is being held in 2024.

In the forthcoming 25th session of the FAO IGG on Tea, more than 120 delegates from 25 tea consuming and producing countries are likely to attend.

Technical side events are also being organized in conjunction with the IGG to facilitate a dialogue between FAO delegates, international policy makers, and the private sector.

Membership in the Group is open to all Member Nations and Associate Members of FAO, including Observers from international organizations and institutions. Nearly all importing and exporting countries of tea are members of the IGG.
