Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia on Monday termed Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi as the “worst and most unsuccessful” Congress president in the party’s history following the Assembly elections 2026.
Dilip Saikia alleged that behind Gogoi’s innocent face lies an ‘ugly character’, accusing the Congress leader of misleading the public.
Addressing media persons today, Saikia accused Gogoi of pursuing what he termed “appeasement politics” and claimed that his political relevance was sustained by divisive strategies rather than public mandate.
Dilip Saikia reiterated his allegations regarding Gogoi’s purported links with Pakistan and said such issues had significantly damaged the credibility of the Assam Congress leadership.
Saikia said, “After the 2026 elections, the people of Assam will realise who has failed them. Gaurav Gogoi will be remembered as the worst and most unsuccessful Congress president in the party’s history.”

He further accused Gogoi of acting against the nation’s interests and questioning his commitment to national security. He further claimed that Gogoi has maintained “friendly engagements” with Pakistan, a country India considers a hostile neighbour.
“Gaurav Gogoi is an anti-national character. As a Member of Parliament, he questions the security of our country on various platforms. How can an elected representative, who takes oath on the Indian Constitution in the sacred temple of Parliament, maintain relations with enemy nations?” Saikia said.
The BJP leader said that although the controversy has sparked widespread debate in Assam due to Gaurav Gogoi’s political position in the state, the issue should not be viewed as a purely regional matter.
Emphasising its broader implications, he asserted, “This is not just Assam’s concern. The matter should be highlighted across the country because it involves national interest and the integrity of our democratic institutions.”
