Itanagar: Emphasising the strategic and developmental importance of road connectivity in border areas, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K. T. Parnaik has called for accelerated and high-quality construction of border roads across the state.

The governor said that strategically important roads serve as critical lifelines for national security and for the socio-economic well-being of people living in frontier regions, and stressed that all projects must meet the highest standards and be completed within stipulated timelines.

Parnaik made the remarks during a meeting with Director General of Border Roads Lt Gen Harpal Singh at Lok Bhavan here, where the two reviewed the progress of key border road projects.

According to an official statement, the discussions focused on how improved road connectivity can accelerate socio-economic development and enhance the quality of life in remote and border areas.

The Director General of Border Roads briefed the governor on future plans, including priority work on the Frontier Highway and other sensitive road alignments.

The governor lauded the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for the quality of roads constructed so far, noting that improved connectivity has transformed border villages by improving access to education, healthcare, markets and livelihood opportunities.

He said better mobility has boosted economic activity, strengthened social integration and reinforced India’s presence in far-flung areas of the northeastern state.

Parnaik added that the expanding road network is giving fresh momentum to the Centre’s Vibrant Villages Programme by helping turn border settlements into centres of growth, resilience and opportunity.

He lauded the Border Roads Organisation’s community welfare initiatives, including health camps for workers, facilities for children of labourers and cleanliness campaigns along riverbanks, highlighting the agency’s emphasis on social responsibility alongside development work.
