In a bid to ensure a clean and responsible digital environment during the upcoming general election, Nepal’s Election Commission on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with social media platform TikTok.
The MoU was exchanged in Kathmandu by Election Commission Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai and TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, Ferdous Al Mottakin, in the presence of Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhandari said measures are being implemented in a planned manner to prevent the possible misuse of technology in the run-up to the March 5 polls.
He said that the agreement would be instrumental in creating a clean digital atmosphere during the election.
Bhandari said he was confident that the agreement would help minimise violations of the election code of conduct and curb the spread of false information. He also thanked TikTok for extending its support to prevent the misuse of its platform during the election period.

The Commission said the initiative would help safeguard the integrity and impartiality of the House of Representatives election. “The agreement would further support the Election Commission in its efforts to curb misleading and harmful content that could influence the election process,” he added.
