In a distressing incident, a lone biker was killed in a suspected tiger attack at Mayodia in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley on Monday night.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the area as incidents of tigers attacking humans are rare in Arunachal Pradesh.

As per reports, the deceased person has been identified as Chiksen Mangpang, a head constable from Manfaiseng village in Namsai district. He was serving in the police force and was returning home after duty when the incident occurred late on Sunday night.

Preliminary reports indicate that Mangpang was travelling alone along the Mayodia stretch when a wild animal attacked him. A truck driver reported seeing a large animal drag the biker off the road, leading authorities to suspect it was a tiger.

Officials said that later on, Mangpang’s motorcycle, bearing registration number AR-20-9866 was found abandoned on the roadside. This further raised suspicions of a wildlife attack.

Search operations were launched by joint forest and police teams, following which the man’s body was recovered.

Confirming the incident, Roing Divisional Forest Officer Mito Rumi (APFS) said that authorities acted immediately after receiving the information. “Night search operations were carried out, but the victim could not be traced then. Later, joint teams recovered the body. It is a deeply upsetting incident,” he said.

However, Rumi said that officials have not yet conclusively identified the animal responsible. He added that confirmation is still required to determine the animal behind the attack. Based on inputs from the police, a medical team will carry out a detailed analysis of the injuries, he added.

On the other hand, commuter shave been advised to exercise extreme caution while travelling along the Mayodia route.
