Guwahati: Suspended Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora has been reportedly arrested again by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell in connection with an alleged land fraud case.

According to official sources, Bora was booked following a complaint lodged by the District Commissioner and Additional District Commissioner of Barpeta, which led the CM Vigilance to register a fresh case against the officer.

The CM Vigilance registered FIR No. 32/25 against the Bora following the complaint.

Nupur Bora has been accused of illegally recording the names of nearly 50 individuals in land documents without following mandatory registration procedures.

Further allegations have been leveled by investigators stating that land mutations were carried out in violation of established rules and norms.

Sources familiar with the case claim that these land records were allegedly altered in exchange for large sums of money, bypassing official channels and procedures meant to ensure transparency and legality in land ownership.

The arrest comes as authorities step up action against alleged corruption. Vigilance officials had earlier detained her in the same case. During a search of her home, officials reportedly found more than Rs 1 crore in cash.

Nupur Bora is accused of building up assets far beyond her known income and gaining large personal wealth through corrupt means. Investigators discovered that in 2024, land measuring 3 bigha, 3 katha, and 15 lecha near Barpeta Satra had been transferred in the name of one Hayat Khan, allegedly at Bora’s behest.

During the raids, the Vigilance team seized Rs 92.5 lakh in cash, along with high-end luxury watches, expensive clothing, and gold and diamond jewellery worth several crores.

It has been revealed that Bora operated nine bank accounts and held lockers in Barpeta and Golaghat. She also owns flats in Jalukbari, plots of land in Beltola and Jalukbari, and reportedly drew a cumulative salary of Rs 45 lakh up to the present day.
