Shillong: The Meghalaya government has released Rs 36 crore in the first phase for team preparation for National Games in 2027.
Meghalaya Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla expressed satisfaction with the progress of team preparations for the National Games, adding that many associations have utilized the funds to recruit coaches and procure equipment.
While speaking to media persons, Shylla said that Meghalaya will be participating in all 39 disciplines at the National Games.
Shylla said, “We have signed the host city contract and are on track with our preparations. The team preparation is going well. Many associations have utilized the funds to recruit coaches and procure equipment.”
“We’ve released Rs 36 crore in the first phase for team preparation, and associations are utilizing it to recruit coaches and procure equipment,” he added.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress, citing archery’s success with 140 medals.
“We have high hopes, and associations are working hard to bring medals in various disciplines,” he added.
The sports minister further praised associations for utilizing financial assistance to engage experts, coaches, and equipment, leading to medal wins in national events.
On infrastructure, Shylla said different projects have varying timelines, with most expected to be completed by December.
“We will have everything ready before the National Games start,” he assured.
Regarding accommodation, the minister said they’re promoting home stays and hotels, with no plans for a game’s village.
“We can accommodate all athletes in existing facilities,” Shylla said.
