Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 12 people, including eight minors, during a series of operations carried out across multiple railway stations and trains over the past five days, officials said on Sunday.
According to an official statement, the rescue drives, which continued till January 28, were conducted as part of routine surveillance and follow-up action on complaints received through RailMadad.
RPF teams identified vulnerable passengers travelling alone or found in distressed conditions and ensured their safe recovery.
The rescued individuals included runaway boys and girls, destitute children and unattended passengers detected at various locations within the NFR jurisdiction.
Major rescue operations were undertaken at stations such as Falakata, Lumding, Kishanganj, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kamakhya, Katihar (East) and Guwahati.
All rescued minors were handed over to Child Line units and recognised child care organisations for rehabilitation and further support.
The adults were produced before the respective local police authorities for necessary legal action.
