Mumbai Police have launched a probe after unidentified persons opened fire at the Juhu residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty in the early hours of Sunday.
No injuries were reported in the incident, officials said, adding that it was not immediately clear whether the filmmaker was present at the time.
According to the police, the firing occurred around 12.45 am at the nine-storey residential building where Shetty lives.
At least five rounds were fired, with one bullet hitting the glass of a gym located on the first floor of the building.
Security in and around the premises was immediately heightened following the incident.
Teams from the Juhu police station and the crime branch rushed to the spot and began investigations.
Police are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Forensic science and ballistic experts were also called in to collect evidence from the site.
A case has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act, officials said.
Senior police officers said multiple angles are being examined as part of the investigation.
Rohit Shetty is one of Hindi cinema’s most successful commercial filmmakers, known for popular franchises such as Golmaal and Singham, as well as the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express.
