Nagaon: The Batadrava cultural project and the Srimanta Sankardev Abirbhav Kshetra at Batadrava Than in Assam’s Nagaon district opened for public on Sunday.

Early this morning, visitors began arriving in large numbers, forming long queues to enter the complex and witness the historic and spiritual site.

Devotees and visitors offered Naam kirtan, expressing joy and devotion as they explored the newly developed Abirbhav Kshetra. The project has been designed to enhance the spiritual experience of devotees visiting the Batadrava Than, while also improving accessibility for families, elderly devotees, and visitors from different parts of the state and beyond to the sacred birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva.

On January 30, the Nagaon District administration had issued a public notice announcing that the Srimanta Sankardev Abirbhav Kshetra would be open visitors from Sunday. The visiting hours have been restricted from 10 am to 6 pm. While the entry is completely free, several regulations have been put in place to ensure sanctity, discipline, and smooth movement of visitors.

On the other hand, smoking, consumption of intoxicants, betel nut, paan masala, gutkha and similar substances has been strictly banned. Visitors wearing traditional attire are being given priority at the entry points. Security personnel have been deployed to regulate queues and ensure adherence to the prescribed rules.

The notice also emphasized on maintaining cleanliness, silence, and decorum within the premises. Littering, spitting, damaging plants or temple property, loud behavior, and any acts hurting religious sentiments are strictly prohibited.

Strict penalties have been prescribed for violations, with fines ranging from ₹21,000 to ₹25,000 for offences such as littering, damaging plants, engaging in unhygienic activities, hurting religious sentiments, or using prohibited substances.
