Aizawl: Police in Aizawl have arrested at least four people in connection with a series of vehicle thefts in the city, officials said on Monday.
The arrests were made during an investigation launched after a two-wheeler theft case was registered at Bawngkawn police station on Sunday. According to police, the accused hail from Karimganj and Patharkandi districts of Assam and are currently residing in the Durtlang area of Aizawl.
During sustained interrogation, the suspects were found to be involved in several vehicle theft cases, police said. The accused reportedly confessed that some of the stolen motorcycles had been sold in Silchar, located in Assam’s Cachar district.
On Monday, while recovering a stolen motorcycle from the Zuangtui area, police also managed to recover two additional motorbikes that had been stolen by the accused during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

Police said efforts are underway to trace and recover the remaining stolen vehicles and to identify any other persons involved in the racket.
Further investigation into the case is in progress, officials added.
