Guwahati: Veteran Assamese actor Bishnu Kharghoria will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Honour at the Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) 2026 in recognition of his enduring contribution to Indian cinema, festival organisers announced on Thursday.
The award will be presented during the second edition of GAFF, scheduled to be held in Guwahati from January 22 to 25, 2026.
Instituted as an annual honour, the Lifetime Achievement award recognises artistes whose body of work has left a lasting impact on cinematic culture and inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences.
Festival director Monita Borgohain said Kharghoria’s contribution to Indian cinema, particularly Assamese films, has been both profound and timeless.
She noted that his performances are marked by emotional depth, integrity and a deep commitment to the craft.

Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished actors of his generation, Kharghoria began his film career with Bristi in 1974 and went on to build an illustrious career spanning several decades.
He delivered memorable performances in several landmark films, including Kollol, Firingoti, Xagoroloi Bohudoor and Pokhi.
Kharghoria has received multiple national and international honours for his work. He won the National Film Award (Special Mention) for Xagoroloi Bohudoor and later received the same recognition for Baandhon in 2012.
He was also conferred the Best Actor award at the Singapore International Film Festival in 1996 for his performance in Xagoroloi Bohudoor.
The Guwahati Asian Film Festival is being organised by Trending Now Media with support from the National Film Development Corporation and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
