APCC to launch ‘Raijor Padulit Raijor Congress’ campaign to reconnect with grassroots in Assam

Guwahati: In an effort to reconnect with grassroots communities and gauge public sentiment in a politically charged Assam, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is set to launch its new outreach campaign, “Raijor Padulit Raijor Congress” (People’s Congress at the People’s Doorstep).

The initiative will be rolled out on December 6 in Dibrugarh, with APCC president Gaurav Gogoi and senior leaders in attendance.

The launch will take place simultaneously on the ground and across digital platforms, with Bhupen Bora leading the campaign responsibilities and Debabrata Saikia overseeing coordination.

At the heart of the campaign is a statewide exercise to collect people’s aspirations through specially designed Aspiration Boxes.

Through these aspiration slips, the Congress aims to reach diverse groups—tea garden workers, farmers, women’s collectives, SHGs, students, and rural communities—and use their inputs to shape the party’s Vision Document and its manifesto for the 2026 elections, an exercise overseen by Manifesto Committee chairperson and Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi.

“In Assam, people from all castes and communities, from Sadiya to Dhubri, from Barak to Brahmaputra form one Assamese community. Chaulung Sukaphaa united this land, and Srimanta Sankardeva gave us our vision and identity. Congress aims to listen to everyone’s concerns and aspirations, and find ways to fulfill them. Starting December 6 in Dibrugarh, we will engage with people to rebuild Assam free from corruption and fear and prepare a forward-looking manifesto. Through this, we will establish the “Raijor Padulit Raijor Congress,” Bordoloi said.

During the launch event, community groups such as tea tribe organisations, student representatives, SHG members, and farmers’ groups will submit their aspirations on the spot, marking the symbolic start of the exercise.

Senior leaders and party workers will also add their own entries to signal collective ownership of the campaign.

The party said that after the launch, booth-level, mandal-level, and district committees will begin placing Aspiration Boxes across Assam.

These boxes will be installed in high-footfall public spaces like marketplaces, community halls, bus stops, playgrounds, tea garden labour lines, and outside college and school premises to ensure maximum participation.

Beginning in Dibrugarh, the campaign will gradually cover all 35 districts, with over 3,000 boxes expected to be deployed in a phased rollout. The publicity activities are headed by senior congress leader and MP Rakibul Hussain.

According to the Congress, several major public concerns have remained unresolved under the BJP government, which has been in power in Assam since 2016. Despite repeated assurances—including a “flood-free Assam” through Brahmaputra dredging and reservoir projects—vast areas of the state continue to experience devastating annual floods without lasting structural solutions.

Tea garden workers, who were promised a daily wage of ₹351, still receive only ₹250 in 2025. Long-pending demands for ST status from multiple communities remain unaddressed, while rural women and SHGs say that key empowerment schemes have lost momentum.

The party also pointed to high maternal mortality, rising gender-based violence, child trafficking, inadequate rural healthcare, ongoing human–wildlife conflict, and school dropout rates as indicators of deepening systemic distress.

By putting people’s voices at the forefront, the APCC says it aims to shape a vision grounded in real community experiences. Party leaders add that the campaign underscores the Congress’s commitment to addressing long-standing promises ahead of the next assembly elections, the preparations for which are being overseen by senior leader Ripun Bora.
