Guwahati: Purabi Dairy has expanded its retail network in the city with the opening of a new prefabricated milk booth at Atal Udyan in Adabari, the second outlet to come up under its collaboration with the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
The kiosk was inaugurated on Tuesday by GMDA Chairman Narayan Deka, in the presence of Cooperation Department Secretary Anant Lal Gyani and officials from GMDA, Purabi Dairy and its partner institutions.
The booth has been positioned to serve visitors to the park, daily commuters and residents in the neighbourhood, offering easy access to a range of fresh dairy products.
The Adabari outlet is part of a three-kiosk rollout planned by GMDA to improve last-mile availability of dairy products across Guwahati.
The first booth under the partnership became operational at Nehru Park on November 20 and received an encouraging consumer response.
A third unit is expected to open soon near Shradhanjali Kanan on RG Baruah Road.
Speaking at the launch, GMDA Chairman Narayan Deka said the initiative provides convenient and hygienic retail touchpoints for citizens and aligns with the authority’s efforts to upgrade public amenities in the city.
Cooperation Secretary Anant Lal Gyani added that the partnership demonstrates how coordinated initiatives between government and cooperatives can expand access to safe and nutritious dairy products.
Purabi’s products are manufactured by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and marketed by North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture of the Assam government and the National Dairy Development Board.
NEDFL officials said the growing kiosk network reflects rising demand for quality dairy across the region.
NEDFL Managing Director Satya Brata Bose said the new booth would serve a significant urban population and help strengthen Purabi’s presence in Guwahati.

WAMUL Managing Director Sameer Kumar Parida noted that each outlet deepens the cooperative’s connection with farmers and consumers, supporting better market access for producers while ensuring fresh milk and milk products reach households more easily.
The kiosks set up under the GMDA–Purabi partnership are equipped with cold-chain storage, visi-coolers and insulated units to maintain product freshness.
The prefabricated structures have been procured under the World Bank-funded APART project and operate on a franchise model that also creates livelihood opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
With its expanding retail footprint, Purabi continues to play a growing role in Assam’s dairy sector, supporting farmer incomes and widening consumer access to safe, high-quality dairy products.
