Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 22 development projects worth Rs 207 crore in Dhalai district.

Saha said the state government is committed to strengthening infrastructure and accelerating overall development across Tripura.

“Over the last seven years, we have worked tirelessly to transform Dhalai district into a model district. There was a time when this region suffered from inadequate infrastructure like poor road connectivity, water scarcity, and limited healthcare facilities,” CM Saha posted on X.

He added, “But from the very beginning of our government, we accorded top priority to these essential sectors, and as a result, development activities have gained remarkable momentum. Today, inaugurated 20 development projects and laid the foundation of 2 more at Kamalpur under Dhalai district.”

He said all departments have been performing exceptionally well to enhance public convenience and strengthen infrastructure, adding that the state now ranks second among northeastern states in both per capita income and GSDP.

“The NITI Aayog has announced that Tripura has emerged as the frontrunner state, which shows the government is working in the right direction. From sustainable livelihood to education and healthcare, the government is doing its best for the overall development of the state,” he said.

Saha also highlighted the state’s remarkable progress in self-employment, driven by the expansion of women-led Self Help Groups.

“Tripura has already created 1,08,000 ‘lakhpati didis’ against the target of 1,16,000, achieving a success rate of nearly 90 per cent. The rise in women-led self-employment is transforming the rural economy,” he said.

Asserting that Dhalai district is a priority area, the chief minister said the district was lagging in terms of an all-around development programme.

“However, the development of Dhalai district remains a key priority for the government,” he said, adding that an additional 10 per cent of the total budget allocation is being directed to this backward district.

“Peace is essential for accelerating development,” he said, adding that the government allocated 39 per cent of the state’s budget to tribal welfare in the 2024–25 fiscal year, and this share is expected to reach 40 per cent in the current year.

The chief minister visited the Shantirbazar market and met with the traders affected by the October 23 violence.
