New Delhi: Proceedings at the Supreme Court were briefly disrupted on Monday after a lawyer allegedly attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai inside the courtroom.
The incident occurred while a Bench headed by the CJI was hearing the mentioning of cases.
According to eyewitnesses, the lawyer approached the dais, removed his shoe, and appeared to throw it in the direction of the judges.
Security personnel stationed inside the courtroom acted swiftly, intercepting the attempt and restraining the lawyer before any harm could occur. He was immediately escorted out of the courtroom.

As he was being removed, the lawyer shouted slogans referring to “Sanatan Dharma.” The Chief Justice, however, remained calm and urged those present to continue with the proceedings.
“Don’t get distracted by all this. We are not distracted. These things do not affect me,” Justice Gavai told the lawyers in court.
An internal inquiry has been initiated by the Supreme Court’s security unit to identify the lawyer and determine the motive behind the act. Further details are awaited.
