Guwahati: Santaneer Elder Care Centre, in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals, successfully organized the third edition of ‘Conclave for Elders 2025’ at the NEDFI House Auditorium in Guwahati on Sunday (October 5) to mark the International Day of Older Persons, which is celebrated across the world on October 1 every year.
Santaneer is a home for the elderly that aims to provide seniors with a comfortable, dignified, and community-oriented environment for their golden years.
The vibrant event, dedicated to enriching the lives of senior citizens, drew an enthusiastic gathering and underlined the commitment to empower, enlighten, and elevate the elderly in the community.
The program began with a minute of silence in memory of the celebrated artiste Zubeen Garg.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Gautam Khound, Secretary of Santaneer, setting a warm and inspiring tone for the day.
The felicitation ceremony honoured prominent senior citizens who have been sources of great inspiration, including Kanak Sen Deka, Dr (Prof.) Ajoya Mahanta, Manisha Hazarika, and Thaneswar Malakar.
Insightful sessions were conducted by Veekash Kumar Agarwal, General Manager, Chief Financial Officer & Company Secretary, NEDFI, Guwahati.
Speaking on “Senior Citizens and Financial Wellness,” Dr. (Prof.) Suresh Chakraborty, Head of the Psychiatry Department in GMCH, elaborated on nurturing mental wellness in the golden years.
The session also featured a special tribute to the Bard of Brahmaputra, Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, curated by Dr. Anjan Jyoti Choudhury.
In addition to complimentary health screenings for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, participants received dietary counselling, physiotherapy advice, and osteoporosis screening. They also benefited from upskilling and awareness initiatives, including a Vipassana meditation by the Assam Vipassana Trust, as well as yoga and computer literacy awareness programmes conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

A unique feature was the exhibition and sale of paintings donated by Dr. Pradip Thakuria and Dr. Swarup De under the banner “Gallery of Charity,” with proceeds supporting Santaneer’s initiatives.
