Guwahati: At least one person died and four others sustained injuries after a fire broke out at a cloth market at Fancy Bazar area in Assam’s Guwahati early on Friday, officials said.
The blaze erupted around 4:20 am at a commercial complex in the Fancy Bazar area of central Guwahati, Fire and Emergency Services Director Surendra Kumar said.
“We received the call at 4:21 am, and our teams reached the site immediately. A total of 16 fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames,” Kumar said.
He said the fire, which spread rapidly due to the presence of various types of cloth materials, has now been brought under control.
“It was a challenging operation. Our personnel have entered the basement and are clearing the area,” Kumar added.
