Guwahati: Assam Police have filed murder charges against singer Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta in connection with the singer’s death in Singapore, a senior police official said on Thursday.
The two were arrested in Delhi on Wednesday and remanded to 14-day police custody by a local court in Guwahati.
Munna Prasad Gupta, Special DGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said both individuals are currently under interrogation.
He added that the investigation is ongoing and details are being withheld.
The police have now included Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the FIR, which prescribes punishment for murder, including life imprisonment or the death penalty along with a fine.

Earlier, Sharma and Mahanta were booked under various BNS sections for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence.
Shyamkanu Mahanta is the younger brother of former Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, who is now the Chief Information Commissioner of the Assam State Information Commission.
His elder brother, Nani Gopal Mahanta, previously served as education advisor to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University.
