New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai has recommended a fresh round of judicial appointments across multiple High Courts, including Tripura, Karnataka, Madras and Himachal Pradesh.
In Tripura, the Collegium approved the elevation of Justice Biswajit Palit, who has been serving as an Additional Judge, to the position of Permanent Judge of the High Court.
Similarly, Justice Kurubarahalli Venkataramareddy Aravind has been recommended for permanent judgeship in the Karnataka High Court.
The Collegium also cleared the appointments of Justices N. Senthilkumar and G. Arul Murugan as judges of the Madras High Court.
In addition, three judicial officers — Geetha Kadaba Bharatharaja Setty, Muralidhara Pai Borkatte, and Tyagaraja Narayan Inavally — have been recommended for elevation as judges of the Karnataka High Court.
For Himachal Pradesh, the Collegium has proposed the appointment of advocates Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma as High Court judges.

Appointments of High Court judges are made by the President under Article 217(1) of the Constitution, while Additional Judges may be appointed under Article 224(1).
As per the Memorandum of Procedure governing the process, High Court Chief Justices are not permitted to recommend additional judges when permanent vacancies exist.
The latest round of recommendations, finalised in the Collegium’s meeting on September 15, 2025, comes as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary across states by filling up crucial vacancies.
