Shillong: Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is accused of orchestrating her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has filed a bail petition.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on September 17 before the judicial magistrate first class of the Sohra sub-division.

According to Additional Public Prosecutor Tushar Chandra, the petition was filed on Friday, but the prosecution requested more time to review the case records.

Sonam’s counsel has claimed “flaws” in the charge sheet filed in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.

Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Indore, was killed by three hired assailants at a secluded parking lot near Weisawdong in Sohra. His wife and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, allegedly planned the murder.

Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam had travelled to Shillong on May 21, 2025, for their honeymoon and later to Sohra. On May 26, the couple went missing, and on June 2, Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge at Arliang Riat Kunongrim, Umblai near Wei Sawdong. Sonam surrendered to police in Uttar Pradesh as investigators from Meghalaya nabbed the other accused.

Last week, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police filed its chargesheet in the honeymoon murder case, naming his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi as the main accused.

In a statement, Meghalaya Police said a 790-page chargesheet was filed in the court of the judicial magistrate first class, Sohra sub-division, in connection with the killing of the Indore-based businessman.

Police investigations revealed that Sonam was allegedly in a relationship with Kushwaha, and together they conspired with three accomplices, Aakash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Aanand Kurmi to eliminate Raja.

The SIT confirmed that substantial material evidence and enclosures were submitted along with the chargesheet.

The five accused face charges under sections 103(1), 238(a), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
