Jowai: In a coordinated anti-narcotics operation, Meghalaya police on Monday arrested two suspected drug peddlers from Assam and seized over 50 grams of heroin from their possession in West Jaintia Hills district.
According to officials, the two individuals, both residents of Darrang district in Assam, were intercepted during a naka check near Jowai around 4 am.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Meghalaya and the district police, based on intelligence inputs.
The suspects were travelling by bus from Silchar, Assam, to Shillong when they were detained.
A thorough search led to the recovery of five soap boxes containing heroin—two concealed on one individual and three on the other.
