Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Jeevan Tara has become the first male athlete from the state to clinch a medal at the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championship,2025.
Tara bagged a bronze medal at the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championship,2025, held in Vietnam.
“Kudos to Jeevan Tara on scripting history! He’s the first male athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to secure a medal in the Senior Men’s category at an Asian-level event. His bronze at the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2025 is a landmark achievement and a proud moment for our state!” Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu posted on X.
Representing India at the championship, which concluded on Thursday (July 31), Tara secured the medal in the U-45 kg category (Class D).
Arunachal Pradesh Pencak Silat Association (APPSA) general secretary P Nobin Jomoh congratulated Tara for his remarkable feat.
Jomoh said that the APPSA, in affiliation with the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, has consistently promoted this style of martial art and produced several national and Northeast-level medalists in recent years.
He stated that Tara’s success is a testament to the state’s burgeoning sports culture and the potential of its athletes.
CM Khandu also congratulated Arunachal Pradesh’s Gumpe Rime on his appointment as the Goalkeeping Coach of the India U-23 National Football Team for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers!
