Imphal: In a major boost to aviation training in Manipur, the No. 1 Manipur Air Squadron of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has inaugurated the state’s first-ever aircraft flight simulator — the Microlite VIRUS SW-80 — at its unit in Thangmeiband, DM College Campus, Imphal.
The launch marks a significant milestone for the NCC’s Air Wing in the state, offering cadets access to basic flight simulation and hands-on training before taking to the skies in the actual Microlite VIRUS SW-80 aircraft.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Deputy Commissioners of Imphal West and Imphal East, Director and Secretary of Education, Superintendent of Police Imphal West, Director of Imphal Airport, Group Commander HQ NCC Imphal, and other senior NCC officials.
Brigadier Vikrant Kulkarni, Group Commander of HQ NCC Imphal, called the moment “historic and proud” for Manipur, stating that the simulator will sharpen flying skills and overall readiness among cadets.
“The NCC is extremely popular among Manipur’s youth, with over 7,000 cadets currently enrolled. Our cadets have not only represented the state with distinction at national events but have also gone on to serve in the armed forces and various government sectors,” he said.
The flight simulator, the only one of its kind in the state, is expected to benefit more than 1,300 Air Wing cadets across Manipur by offering a safe, efficient, and cost-effective mode of early aviation exposure.

Senior Cadet Lanchenba Waikhom and Cadet Benaobi Sagolshem expressed their excitement, saying the new facility would be a game-changer in building confidence and technical proficiency.
“With this addition, Manipur takes a firm step forward in raising the standard of aviation training for its youth,” Brigadier Kulkarni added.
