Aizawl: Mizoram is set to host the second edition of the urban downhill mountain biking race in November.
The downhill mountain biking race—new edition of Red Bull Aizawl Tlang Ruam— will be held in the state capital, Aizawl.
The announcement was made following a high-level review meeting on Tuesday (July 15) chaired by Sports and Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, who met with key government officials, event partners and community leaders to assess preparations for the high-adrenaline race.
Speaking at the meeting, Hmar emphasised the need to make the new edition of Red Bull Aizawl Tlang Ruam “bigger, more inclusive, and even more challenging”.
The race, which gained international attention last year as Asia’s first urban downhill biking event, is being scaled up to deliver a more demanding course and a broader rider base.
He highlighted the race’s potential not only to promote sports and adventure tourism but also to boost Aizawl’s visibility on the global map.
“Aizawl Tlang Ruam is a symbol of Mizoram’s growing capacity to host world-class events. Beyond being a sport, it is an opportunity to foster youth engagement, local economic growth, and global connectivity,” said Hmar.
The inaugural downhill biking event in October 2024 put Mizoram firmly on the global adventure sports map.
Elite bikers from around the world descended upon the state, thrilling spectators as they navigated Aizawl’s unique urban landscape, tackling steep, winding stairways and narrow alleys with impressive precision and endurance.
It drew 22 participants, including two international professional riders, Tomas Slavik from the Czech Republic and Pedro Burns from Chile, who also served as mentors.
Officials at the meeting confirmed that the upcoming edition would feature an enhanced and extended racing route, incorporating more technical challenges and aligning with global downhill racing standards.
