Guwahati: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are scheduled to visit Assam on Wednesday (July 16).
During their visit, the top party leaders will interact with state party functionaries.
This marks their first visit to Assam since Gaurav Gogoi assumed the role of state president, and comes ahead of next year’s crucial assembly elections.
Kharge and Gandhi are scheduled to attend two meetings, including one at Chaygaon — about 40 km from Guwahati, during the day-long trip.
Gogoi said on Tuesday that the district, block and mandal presidents of the party will be able to present their views before the leadership during the meetings..
“Their visit is a powerful show of solidarity with the people of Assam. It also reaffirms the Congress party’s shared commitment to justice, harmony, and inclusive progress for all. In these challenging times, their presence will bring strength to every worker, volunteer, and citizen who dreams of a better future,” Gogoi said in a post on X.
